23 Aug 2005 - Mytchett's Danish Pasting
Mytchett Athletic FC has again completed their Denmark pre-season trip with a magnificent performance by the Under 11s squad and retained the Kattegat Cup which the Under 15s had won last year. The team joined the Under 16s and both Mytchett Athletic sides travelled to Grenaa in Denmark to take part in the 21st Kattegat Cup Football Tournament which attracts Clubs from 5 Nations and this year over 175 teams attended.
Mytchett Athletic FC have become regulars in this Europe with regular trips to Holland, France and now Denmark, a big attraction to the Club is the quality of the tournaments and of the teams together with the fact that these are 11-a-side games makes the trips an ideal lead up to the new season.
This year was the first international trip for the Under 11s (will be Under 12s this coming season), and the Manager Chris Hinks said - The trip lived up to all my expectations, the squad got so much out of it, not only in terms of football, but for team spirit and the bonding of all the players. The style of football was very different to ours and the competition was strong and every match gave us challenges, with what we got from the trip we will defiantly be travelling abroad again.
Over the four day Tournament, the team played seven 60min games in all, and conceded only 4 goals but scored 25 with an impressive 6-0 win in the final against a local Danish team called H.O.T. The trip for the boys not only brought success, but it was also a time to talk to people from other cultural backgrounds, everyone enjoyed themselves and already Mytchett Athletic FC are looking at other European destinations for next year.
