29 Dec 2006 - Christmas Tournament 2006
Mytchett Athletic FC (MAFC) held their annual Christmas tournament at the Camberley Arena this year, and once again it proved to be not only a popular event amongst the 146 MAFC boys & girls, but also an exciting event with 70 games being played which included a penalty shoot out in one of the semi-finals, and some excellent indoor football which made many Mums & Dads very proud.
The event was held on Friday 29th December and was split into two halves, with the Under 8s through to Under 10s playing in the morning, and the Under 11s, 12s & 13s in the afternoon. The Christmas Tournament has a different dimension to the Clubs Annual Outdoor Tournament which is always held over the May Day Bank Holiday. The Christmas Tournament mixes the age groups so each team has different aged Mytchett players, this is a great way to challenge all players and unites many friendships which have been made in the past.
This year the teams all had a feathery theme with each side taking the name of a bird.
In the morning the semi-finals saw the Cuckoos beat the Owls (2-0) and the other semi ended in a penalty shoot-out between the Magpies and the Condors, as it happens the two highest goal scoring teams in the morning with 8 apiece were to battle it out in the final and it was the Magpies that become the winners over the Cuckoos with a very close final which ended 1-0.
MAGPIES: Josh Lowe, William Langdon, Sam Hoyle, Ryan Donoghue, Sam Dance & Jonathan Barrow.
CUCKOOS: Alex Doamo, Brandon Carter, Max Ryan, Emily Nicholas, Lucy Hinks, Charlotte Parkinson.
The afternoon had the older section of the tournament, this saw more games being played with even more goals being scored, and with more competitive football being played, the semi-finals had the Pigeons beating the Seagulls 1-0 and the Vultures were unable to prey on the Storks and lost 2-0. The TOP goal scoring team throughout the day with a massive 12 goals, and the champions in the afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Pigeons were the Stand Tall Storks.
STORKS: Callum Watson, Chris Fitzgerald, Neil Gallop, Tom Hinks, Robert Deans.
PIGEONS: James Clark, Rhys Merrifield, Terry Crowdle, Will Stanley, Gabriel Cockram.
The top goal scorer of the day was Tom Hinks with a personal total of 9, who played for the Storks. The day went without a hitch, and this was greatly helped by the 3 superb referees we had and a big thank you goes out to; Stuart, Ben and Chris.
